You’re such a peach!

IMG_3823

One of the great things about summer is the summer fruits!!! I forgot my love for peach until I took a bite out of one a few weeks ago. It was like sweet bliss, so sweet, juicy and succulent. However, for my brother who was sitting beside me did not enjoy my loud slurps from trying to keep the juices from dripping down my chin, but whatever, it was so yummy! I LOVE PEACHES!

In my family, I am the dessert girl, but I hardly make any dessert for dinner, because usually we get really full from the actual dinner one and… I’m kind of lazy especially when I’m hungry… haha So one day, with my peaches in hand & dinner almost starting, I decided to quickly whip up this french dessert, called “clafoutis.”  Plus I saw Anna Olson do it easily on her show, Fresh with Anna Olson, the week before, so I thought why not. She used plums, but I just used peaches.

… go on, take another bite & read more

What is CLAFOUTIS? It is a french dessert that is basically baking fresh fruit in a batter. Traditionally it is baked with cherries, but any fruit can take it place. However, some would call these non-cherry clafoutis, flognarde. But I’ll call it clafoutis, because it sounds cool & I like french dessert names, haha. It is a quick dessert to make and has an elegant look since the fruit sticks out of the batter.

{Peach Clafoutis}

Adapted from Anna Olson

Ingredients

  • 4 x purple plums
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • dash salt
  • 2 x large eggs
  • 1 x large egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F and grease four 5-ounce baking dishes.
  2. Cut plums into quarters and arrange in each baking dish. Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, egg yolk, vanilla and milk. Add milk mixture to flour and whisk until combined. Pour gently over plums and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until puffed and golden.
  3. Serve clafoutis warm or at room temperature with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of lavender honey.

Serves 6

RESULTS: So after dinner, I was stuffed, but I always have room for dessert!! It was super easy to make & took no effort. They were really pretty looking. The taste was different, it was like a custard with peaches. Overall, it was an interesting dessert and tasted okay to me. Would I make it again? Maybe not, but I might try with cherries clafoutis one day. But I would definitely bake with peaches again, because baked peaches are delicious!!!

So summer is not over yet and I hope it doesn’t end soon, because it means two things: 1) school is starting *tears* and 2) no more summer fruits for another 3 seasons which is just depressing! Don’t leave me, peach, I … love you & our love affair has just begun :(

Anyways, look out for updates, I have another peach recipe to try and share with you very soon!

Bon Appetit,

Jenny
